A Winter Wonderland of twinkling lights and displays will soon return to Niagara Falls!
The Niagara Falls Winter Festival of Lights begins in November and will mark the 40th anniversary of the much-loved winter tradition with a spectacular 101 nights of lights!
The festival will brighten nights from November 12, 2022-February 20, 2023.
More than 3 million lights and 75 illuminations will be on brilliant display along an 8km stretch of the Niagara Parkway, in Dufferin Islands and across the tourist districts. Visitors can drive or walk through the popular festival route to experience the outdoor, self-guided event which is Canada’s largest and longest-running FREE outdoor light festival. Many Niagara Falls Hotels are within walking distance of the displays, and would make for an enchanting winter getaway.
To celebrate this year’s milestone, there are a number of new experiences for visitors. They include
40 nights of free indoor family-focused entertainment, special illumination of the Falls every night, free photos with Santa in December, and new displays and themed illumination areas including the Royal Promenade, Frosted Falls, Enchanted Forest and Great Canadian North.
40 Nights of Family Entertainment
Adding to the excitement are 40 nights of FREE family entertainment. Make Crowne Plaza Niagara Falls-Fallsview a stop in your itinerary to take in a fun and interactive show. From magicians to jugglers, these performers are sure to wow a crowd. Shows are 6:00pm-9:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays from November 12-February 20, with shows daily from December 23
through January 8 (excluding December 25 and 31).
Niagara Falls Fireworks
The festival will also mark the 40th anniversary with 40 nights of spectacular fireworks displays above the Falls. Displays will light the sky on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm during the festival dates and over the Christmas holidays. Two displays are scheduled on New Year’s Eve; 8:00pm and 12:00am.
Hot Chocolate Trail
A sweet new addition to the Festival is the Niagara Falls Hot Chocolate Trail. Participating Niagara Falls Hotel and restaurants throughout the tourist district are offering specialty cups of the decadent drink. Visitors can expect unique and exciting flavours at set prices. From Candy Cane Hot Chocolate finished with Whipped cream and a Hershey Kiss, to Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate at Marriott on the Falls, there is a flavour for everyone. Some venues are offering spiked versions featuring flavoured liquers or add-in’s. The Hot Chocolate Trail is available each day of the festival.
Winter Festival of Lights Photo Contest
The Niagara Falls Winter Festival of Lights is an annual tradition for many visitors, and to mark the anniversary, organizers are holding an Instagram photo contest. Visitors are asked to post their photos from the 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s with the hashtag #wfol40 for the chance to win an overnight getaway in Niagara Falls to experience the festival.
